Present programmes of Snehatheeram for the target group, inter
alia, consist of :
Children's Village
at Vellarada (Mezhacodu): About two acres of land
has been purchased for setting up a Rehabilitation Centre for
Children. Here homes for destitute children are being setup
on the model of S.O.S. Villages. Each Home will have 10 children,
under the care of a house mother.
Awareness generation
among the community and the target group is done through Poster
exhibitions, Seminars, Workshops, Film shows, Street plays etc.
Fellowship meetings
of affected persons with interactive sessions of singing, yoga,
devotion and community meal help to lessen their despondency
and bolster up their spirit.
Distribution of family
kits of balanced food-packets (rice, pulses, oil,
onion etc.) to the families every month.
Mutual Support Groups
are promoted so that they can collectively face social and economic
challenges. Small savings, income generating activities also
form part of this programme
Child Sponsorship
programme endeavors to find sponsors for each
child from the HIV/AIDS affected families or Orphans. Supply
of educational aids to school going children of affected families
also form part of the programme.
Vocational Training
to the young is another programme of Snehatheeram aimed at equipping
them to engage in gainful employment.
Snehatheeram Clubs
inculcate among school children and college students leadership
/ citizenship qualities and goal consciousness.
Santhwanam provides
counseling by professionals to the families to reassure them
and enhance their self confidence.
Snehadhwani
is the official tongue of Snehatheeram and is published quarterly.
Infrastructure Development
Snehatheeram provides and maintains houses and sanitation facilities
to the affected families.
Maintenance of Satellite
Centres at Trivandrum, Poovar, Kollam, and Kottarakara
take the service of Jeevadhara to the people.
Other Activities
Regular House visits, hospitalisation of the infected,
and care for the seriously ill also form part of activities
of Snehatheeram
