To start with, Snehatheeram has adopted the southern districts of Kerala and Tamilnadu as it area of operation: in course of time, depending on the success of the present operations, the areas of operation will be enlarged.

The area of present operation epitomises the sad situation of the poor in all fields of life as seen elsewhere in South India. Many are without a shelter over their heads; without one square meal a day; without proper medical care. Alcoholism and drugs, poor availability of potable water, inability to procure medical attention, protein-energy malnutrition, environmental pollution, diseases like asthma, tuberculosis etc. are the curses of the people of the area. It is in this bleak scenario Sexually Transmitted Diseases and HIV/AIDS have raised their ugly heads. The problem is far graver than meets the eye.
